Where to start with hotel decoration design

With the progress and development of society, the demand for hotels is also increasing. At the same time, guests have increasingly high requirements for the hotel environment, so every designer should consider what type of hotel to build when designing the hotel. That is the positioning of the hotel, which includes: what type of hotel it is, how large its scale is, whether it is high-end or mid-range consumption, low-end consumption, what its target audience is, and so on. So what should be paid attention to in hotel decoration? Below are a few aspects to introduce to you.

1、 Market positioning

Communicate with the property owners to understand the hotel's positioning and market, such as renovating it into a resort hotel, business hotel, conference hotel, high-end tourist hotel, etc. Each type of hotel has a different design, so it is crucial to give the hotel a definite positioning.

2、 Functional division

Understanding the functions of a hotel is also an important part. Draw a flowchart to illustrate the different locations, areas, and proportions of the entire hotel. The functional division should not only meet the various behaviors of guests in food, accommodation, entertainment, and shopping, but also ensure the smooth progress of various behaviors of hotel management (including various types of work) (avoiding cross operations). This requires designers to have a thorough understanding of hotel equipment, various spatial functions, and their proportions. Subsequently, designers need to conduct research and discussions with property owners (including hotel management) in order to determine the "Hotel Functional Flowchart". Afterwards, designers need to make specific divisions for each space. Domestic hotel design (starting from the architectural structure) often adopts a fixed pattern, especially standard guest rooms, with extremely low design content. Therefore, at this stage, our goal is to innovate design beyond meeting functional requirements.

3、 Spatial sense

The sense of space is the psychological feeling that the virtual and real enclosure of a building gives to people.

The ideal state should be to integrate the architectural planning of hotel design with indoor space. This is a combination of reason and sensibility. Currently, most of the designs we do are based on existing building structures, so the so-called spatial integration we advocate (integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, integration of indoor spaces) can only be carried out under certain conditions.

Hotels usually have large shared spaces. How to introduce outdoor light, water, and greenery into the interior, how to achieve the integration of building and indoor space, and how to break the old spatial utilization mode need to absorb past experience, but more importantly, innovation is needed.

4、 Style

The style of hotel design cannot be separated from its market positioning, as it is constrained by cultural background.

1. Style

Various types of hotels will have different design styles. For example, the overall style of a resort hotel must be relaxed, jumping, bright, and casual, while the functionality of a business hotel is at the forefront, and its style must be simple, bright, and eye-catching in color

2. Lighting

Lighting design is a large professional field.

Lighting, indirect lighting, primary light source, secondary light source, adjustable light source, cold and warm light, etc. have different applications in different space designs of hotels.

3. Color

The use of color is increasingly valued in hotel design, as it has a strong visual impact and can easily form a distinct impression

4. Accessories

Accessories cover a wide range of decorative surfaces, sculptures, plants, flower arrangements, ceramics, and other decorative items. The design of accessories should also be included in hotel design, which should be designed or selected by the designer as a whole. It is a soft design, and the selection of many accessories reflects a humanistic spirit.

Design is a creative activity that originates from life but is higher than life. It plays a certain regulatory and guiding role in people's various social behaviors, and hotel design is no exception. We have been advocating for "green design", "environmental design", "energy-saving design", and "humanized design". As a professional hotel designer, what we need to do is how to integrate them into hotel design. Designers must have a profound understanding of life, have meticulous observation of some details, and integrate these feelings into the detailed design of various spaces in the hotel.
